58th Annual Book Fair Begins TONIGHT!

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit opens its 58th Annual Jewish Book Fair tonight with Martin Indyk, director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at Brookings Institute and former ambassador to Israel under President Clinton. Indyk will discuss his latest book, Innocent Abroad: An Intimate Account of American Peace Diplomacy in the Middle East. Mr. Indyk will speak at 7:45 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center located at 6600 W. Maple in West Bloomfield. Tickets purchased in advance are $12, $15 at the door. Indyk is the first in a collection of top names in literature, religion, education and public life set to speak at Book Fair, with events held at both Jewish Community Centers in Oak Park and West Bloomfield.

Norman Lebrecht will be the guest for the Annual Book Club Night, 8 p.m. Thursday, November 5. His new book The Game of Opposites: A Novel, explores the psychological and moral dilemmas of living in a post-Holocaust world and the internal struggle of Paul Miller, a labor camp escapee torn between taking revenge for the horrors he endured or moving forward to a new life.

This year's Book Fair also will include Bill Scheft, head writer for "The David Letterman Show," and Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry, stars of TV's "L.A. Law."

Other events include children's programs with Fran Manushkin, author of The Tushy Book, Debra Darvick, author of I Love Jewish Faces and a presentation by Marcia Fishman, author of Rudolph's Nose Knows, with an appearance by Rudolph, a blind and deaf daschund who teaches children about disability awareness.

Another highlight is Book Fair's first business breakfast with Barry Ritholtz, author of Bailout Nation: How Greed and Easy Money Corrupted Wall Street and Shook the World Economy. The business breakfast is on Friday, November 6 at 7:30 a.m. Honorary chairs are Former Governor James Blanchard, former Chief Judge Barry Howard and Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

Detroit's Jewish Book Fair, the oldest and largest of its kind, also has a large sales floor with an impressive inventory of books about a variety of topics.
