A 34-year-old man was fatally shot Friday evening in the parking lot of an axe-throwing business in Cookeville, police said.

Cookeville Police Department (CPD) officers responded around 7:52 p.m. to Get Axed on South Jefferson Avenue, where they found Ashton Bohannon with gunshot wounds. Officers rendered aid on the scene before Bohannon was transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, CPD stated.

A 22-year-old suspect was detained at the scene without incident and later interviewed by detectives. As of Saturday, no charges have been filed.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Mr. Bohannon as they navigate this difficult time,” the department said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
