Trinity Shows Theater: community volunteers working together

By Deb Risden

In 2022, Stephanie Lira and her family brought community theater to Peyton after several years of putting on Christian-themed productions in churches and other venues. Trinity Shows Theater produces two plays per year — one during the Easter season and one at Christmas.

Lira, Trinity Shows director, said, “We were working with a couple of theater companies in Colorado Springs and we wanted to start telling more of the story of Jesus. The church skits we were involved in tell the story from somebody else’s perspective. For example, the crucifixion might be told from a soldier’s point of view. We wanted to tell the full story and not just one perspective.”

In 2022, Trinity Shows Theater became a nonprofit.

Trinity Shows Theater is now located in a building where they are able to work permanently after experiencing space and time limitations at churches. “We thought it would never happen. Now we have our own space to use for our rehearsals and productions,” Lira said.

Lira’s husband, her parents and her nine siblings worked together producing plays. “We were all doing theater together. My sisters and I all dance,” she said. “The boys are into building sets and doing all the technical things on set like lights and sound.” She said her father worked in theater at Six Flags for many years and has a business building audio products for organizations such as museums.

“We started performing in productions as siblings and then friends at church started joining us, followed by friends of friends through church and work,” Lira said. She said the current cast includes a total of 56 people, ages 6 through 78.

The cast and crew are volunteers. Some perform in both productions and some only in one, depending on their schedule and availability. They rehearse three days a week.

Trinity Shows welcomes new members to the theater company. Lira said no experience is required.

The next production, “Forgiven 2025,” will have 6 shows – April 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20 — performed at their permanent location at 2755 Slocum Road in Peyton. Admission is free, however, donations are appreciated and are used to help pay the rent. The space holds close to 200 people. Reservations can be made in advance on the website, TrinityShows.com. Walk-in’s without reservations are welcome.
