King Charles, Queen Camilla’s Visit to Vatican Gets Delayed

(MENAFN) The planned visit of Britain’s King Charles and Queen Camilla to the Vatican has been delayed "by mutual agreement" due to Pope Francis' ongoing recovery from an illness, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Tuesday.

According to the palace, the royal couple’s state visit has been delayed after "medical advice has now suggested that Pope Francis would benefit from an extended period of rest and recuperation."

The statement emphasized that the decision was made in consultation with the Vatican’s medical team.

The palace also conveyed that "Their Majesties send The Pope their best wishes for his convalescence and look forward to visiting him in The Holy See, once he has recovered."

This delay follows Pope Francis’ return to the Vatican on Sunday after spending five weeks at Gemelli Hospital in Rome due to a battle with double pneumonia.

Earlier, the palace had announced that the royal couple was scheduled to meet the Pope during their trip to Rome next month, although their visit to Italy is still expected to proceed.
