Everything you didn't see on the insane Deal or No Deal Island season 2 finale

The stuff that did not make it to air was almost as crazy as what did.

Warning: This article contains spoilers about the Deal or No Deal Island season 2 finale.

The Deal or No Deal Island season 2 finale was absolutely crazy, but there was plenty more insanity that did not make it to TV, including some brutal personal takedowns, a Backstreet Boys singalong, and a briefcase swap that could have changed everything. And Entertainment Weekly was on set for filming of the finale to watch all the insanity up close.

What viewers saw was David Genat win $5.8 million — the biggest prize pot in network television history. And he did it in epic fashion, turning down deals for $1,520,000, $1,980,000, $2,900,000, and $3,870,018, even though it meant there was a very strong chance he could leave with less than $100. But because producers had to fit David’s entire game into only 43 minutes of airtime, it meant that tons of incredible words and actions got left on the cutting room floor.

Perhaps the biggest thing not to make the final edit is what would have happened had David not accepted the final offer of $5.8 million. There were two cases left at that point. One contained $75 and the other contained $12,232,001. The episode showed that David’s case contained the $75, meaning that had he not accepted Banker Chrissy Teigen’s final offer and stuck with that case, he would have left with just $75. But that’s not what would have happened.

In a moment that was cut for time, David told host Joe Manganiello before the final two case amounts were revealed that he would have switched from case 18 to case number 7. “I firmly, firmly believe the $12 million is in case number 7,” he told the host. The cases were then opened, and David was right, meaning he would have taken home that full $12,232,001. Manganiello asked the player how he knew, and David replied simply: “I know things.” (David also discussed his case switch move with EW shortly after filming concluded.)

Here's what else we observed on one of the most historic nights in television history, starting with an absolute bonkers Temple talk that was mostly completely cut. Below were some of the highlights from what went down, and what you missed.

• Things were still raw between the cast and CK, who got hammered on multiple fronts. In a moment that has been discussed with both Phillip and CK in our exit interviews, Phillip said CK made assumptions about his financial status based on his race, which CK denied. “Your unconscious bias has been disgusting,” he laid into her at the Temple. “You looked for evil and the only place you did not look was in the mirror… A lot of people on the stage don’t think you’re a good person.”

Seychelle was still pissed at CK for eliminating her, and there was much discussion about the early season excursion in which the two were paired up and Seychelle made a unique (and, we assume, in jest) offer that was never likely to get past network censors: “I’ll eat your p---- if you give me the high value case.” (Someone please cast Seychelle on another reality competition program IMMEDIATELY!)

• David was on the receiving end of some shots as well. Maria-Grace was not too happy after learning about the player’s past on Australian Survivor:  “Dr. Will says he’s the biggest liar in America, but I think I’m looking at the biggest liar in Australia.” And CK took him to task for saying she was a narcissist and in love with Lete. But most of the talk surrounding the winner revolved around his uniquely close relationship with Parvati in the game.

Seychelle said Parvati was not the “mom” but rather the maid cooking for David in the Family alliance, while CK pointedly asked, “Who would you rather see make oatmeal in the morning, Parvati or your wife?” (David answered his wife). The David and Parvati relationship had the cast so flummoxed, Dr. Will asked out loud, “How am I the barometer of normalcy?”

• Lete, who was very upset speaking to EW the morning after her excursion ouster because of players giving David high value cases, remained so at the start of Temple. “I was really sad to hear what I heard from people,” she told Joe, and then specifically cited her number one ally Phillip for giving them both high cases. “They told me they had my back if I made it to the final round and when I found out he didn’t, that really hurt.”

Phillip responded that he would always help players and never hurt, yet Lete called out people for saying they had to get Parvati and Will out since they had already won a reality show, but then helping David after his past was revealed during the excursion. “It honestly makes me feel like a clown.” On a lighter note, Lete had promised Dickson a kiss only if she made it to the Banker, so would not kiss him after prompts from Joe. Poor Dickson.

• Dr. Will was insistent on learning the identity of who had dropped a deuce outside of the camp porta potty, continually bringing it up and pointing an accusing finger at Lete. “The person who took a s--- next to the porta potty was… Lete! Why did you s--- on the ground, Lete? Lete took a giant dump on the ground.”

Later, when the subject came up again, Lete finally broke down and had enough, yelling, “It was me! I really had to go!” while explaining that there were strategic conversations she needed to get to so went outside instead of in the bathroom. Manganiello had to finally get the evening back on track and off of Will’s Dump or No Dump Island investigation. “Children, children… we need to film a television show.”

• Parvati admitted to “mildly slowing down” Lete on the excursion, “But I didn’t throw her plank in the water.” As for that plank throw, Will argued that David would respect the fact that “I wanted him to really work for it.” The doctor also gave the winner his flowers, saying David played “a flawless game.”

• In a really cute moment, Manganiello presented Luke with a $1 bill and said, “Don’t spend it all in one place.” Luke later got the host to sign it, so we assume it has not been spent and is suitably framed somewhere. And while there was a lot of drama and hurt feelings between the cast, there was also camaraderie.  At one point, they all started singing the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want it That Way” chorus together. They actually didn’t sound half bad!

• The host was absolutely pumped throughout the evening. During one break in filming the Temple talk drama, Manganiello exclaimed, “I want to start filming another season right now! Let’s go!” And then right before they transitioned to the actual game, he was glowing to a crew member, “That was f---ing glorious. We need a three-hour finale!” He was absolutely right, and it is criminal that viewers did not get it.

• It's almost impossible to describe the tension that ramped up on set as the game progressed and David kept turning down deals for millions of dollars. Even the Banker was stressed out. “I’m gonna vomit,” said Chrissy Teigen after David turned down his fourth offer for more than $1.5 million. Later, after making a fifth offer for $1.98 million, she seemed to be talking to herself: “He’s gotta take it. Please f---ing take it.” Speaking of Teigen, Dr. Will kept yelling across the Temple set during breaks in filming, trying to get the star to come out with them after: “There’s a discotheque open till 4 a.m.!”

• David was in the zone, pacing the stage constantly, fist-bumping the cast, chest-bumping the host, and barking out “I live for this! I live for it!” to no one in particular. He actually wanted to take his shirt off at one point, but was all mic’d up and told to leave it on. After he pulled down briefcase 17 for $750, David announced, “I killed the Banker.”

• The cast was losing their minds throughout all of this. Even people like Seychelle, Lete, and CK could not help but root on their competitor as he kept defying both the odds and logic to soldier on.  “This is the best finale ever,” CK announced at one point, to which Will replied, “This is the best show ever.” Meanwhile, Storm promised to “Butt chug a Red Bull” if David won $12 million.… and was dangerously close to having to go through with that.

• Parvati walked over to this reporter at one point with her mouth agape, saying simply… “He’s out of his mind.” And the reaction from the crew members on set as David rejected deal after deal was equally shocked. When he turned down the fifth offer for $1.98 million, there were gasps of  “Oh my God!” all across the set, only drowned out by Manganiello’s “LET’S F---ING GO!” Other things overhead by the crew as David continued to flirt with complete financial disaster:
“What a f---ing manic.”
“What is happening right now?!”
“JESUS CHRIST!!!”

• David actually asked Banker’s Assistants Ben and Kamari to open the final case together, but Manganiello said that was against the rules, so Ben went and opened case 24 to reveal $25, leading the cast to lose their minds while David picked Joe up in a giant bear hug.

It was 1:36 a.m. in Panama when David finally accepted his deal for $5.8 million. Twenty minutes later, he was signing forms and then walking off into jungle, yelling “Oh my goodness!” as he disappeared into the distance a much richer man.
