Int’l Day Against Racism: Tourism experts urge govt to reject foreign intervention

A cross-section of tourism experts in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, have stressed the need for the government to harness natural resources and shun foreign intervention in order to tackle the current issues of racial discrimination.
The tourists made this known while reacting to this year’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, observed on March 21 every year.
Speaking, Dr. Emmanuel Effiong of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science (Tourism) said this year’s theme, “60 Years of the Anti-Racism Convention: Progress and Achievements in the Fight Against Racial Discrimination,” was designed to foster global understanding and unity free from racial segregation.
Others who also spoke, Dr. Etim Eminue and Mr. Godwin Etim, said racial discrimination remains an obstacle that causes underdevelopment in society.
Commenting on the religious implications of racial discrimination, some clerics, Pastor Emmanuel Enieunam and Bishop Henshaw Okon, described racial discrimination as a satanic and barbaric action that must be eradicated.

This year’s Racial Discrimination Day marks the 60th anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
On this day 60 years ago, the General Assembly of the United Nations made a groundbreaking step in the global effort to eradicate racism, but the reverse has recently been the case, as President Donald Trump has, over the years, deported a lot of migrants due to racism.
