St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Marquette receives $135K grant
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A U.P. church will be undergoing renovations thanks to a generous grant.
The National Fund for Sacred Places awarded St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Marquette a $135,000 matching grant. The church is using the money to repair damaged sandstone, tuckpoint the original hand-cut sandstone blocks and apply water sealant to protect the building.
Parishioners say the grant is coming at the perfect time because the church celebrates its 150th anniversary this year.
“We’ve had 150 years of worship services here and community engagement here,” St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Member Fred Cole said. “We’re looking to shore up the building and preserve it so we can have another 150 years looking toward the future.”
The grant is a matching grant, which means St. Paul’s also has to raise $135,000 in order to get the money. We’ll update you on its fundraising efforts and how to get involved as that information becomes available. In the meantime, you can donate directly to the church here.
