Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival on Lake Dora

The 44th annual Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival, showcasing more than 100 antique and vintage boats, is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 21, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 22 and 8 a.m. to noon March 23 at Wooton Park on Lake Dora, 100 E. Ruby St., Tavares. Admission is $10 per person.

Howey library hosts stamp club meeting

Minneola Library book, bake and craft sale

The Friends of the Minneola Schoolhouse Library will host its annual spring book, bake and craft sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 22 at Minneola City Hall, 800 N. U.S. Highway 27.

The event will feature a variety of books, including kids and vintage; puzzles, CDs and DVDs and 60 vendor tables of crafts and gifts items. Breakfast and lunch, including hot dogs, along with drinks and baked goods, will also be available. Funds raised support the library’s programs and activities.

Leesburg Blooms and Brews celebrates spring

The City of Leesburg will celebrate the arrival of spring with its Leesburg Blooms and Brews event from noon to 4 p.m. March 22 at Town Square along Main Street and at participating shops and businesses.

Visitors can stroll downtown and receive samplings as well as a complimentary flower from each location.  The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required onsite at Town Square the day of the event to receive a map and sampling tickets.

Eustis Elementary celebrates 100 years

Eustis Elementary School will observe its 100th anniversary, with a Continuing Our Legacy celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 22 at the school campus, 714 E. Citrus Ave.

Eustis Mayor Willie Hawkins will open the festivities with the reading of a proclamation in front of the school, followed by historical tours, performances, games, food, music and art. The public, especially former students and their families, teachers and staff, are welcome to attend.

Monthly Parkinson’s support group meets

The monthly support group for people with Parkinson’s Disease and their caregivers will be held from 11 a.m. to Noon March 26 at Lake Port Square, 821 Lake Port Blvd., Leesburg. Members will be sharing status updates on their Parkinson’s journey, including what’s working and what’s causing concern for them. The public is welcome to attend.

Southern Gospel concert in Leesburg

Southern Gospel group The Hyssongs will perform in concert at 6 p.m. March 30 at Grace Bible Baptist Church, 1703 Lewis Road, Leesburg. The family trio has been singing together for more than 20 years, combining vocal harmony, humor and brass instruments in their performances.

The concert is free and open to the public; a free will offering will be taken. A nursery for children under 3 years of age will be available.

Watercolor class at Trout Lake

Watercolor artist Ellen Westerholm will lead another Inspired by Nature watercolor class from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. April 2 at Trout Lake Nature Center, 520 E. County Road 44, Eustis.

This month’s subject will be a flower pot and the cost is $50, which covers all needed materials including paint, brushes and art paper. Class size is limited and registration is required. Beginners are welcome.

Leesburg Electric increasing costs

Based on fluctuating fuel costs and initial fiscal year estimates, Leesburg Electric will be modestly increasing the Bulk Power Cost Adjustment (BPCA) by $0.005 per kWh effective April 1, according to an announcement by the City of Leesburg.

With the increase, the total BPCA charge will be $0.025 per kWh, with the BPCA yielding a cost of $132.97 for the first 1,000 kWh of consumption. To minimize the overall impact to monthly electric charges, the timing and implementation of the increase has been scheduled during the spring.

Eustis installs upgrades at Carver Park

The City of Eustis Parks and Recreation Department recently completed the installation of a new press box and new concession stand at Carver Park’s football field, 2214 E. Bates Ave.

The new press box will provide an elevated space for announcers, coaches, and media, while the long-awaited concession stand means families and fans can grab snacks.

Mount Dora hosts traveling exhibition on American Revolution

The W.T. Bland Public Library in Mount Dora has been chosen as one of four sites in Florida to host the The American Revolution Experience, a traveling pop-up exhibition designed to bring the story of the nation’s origin to life, beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. March 22 and continuing during normal library hours through April 5.

The exhibition was created by the American Battlefield Trust, in partnership with the Daughters of the American Revolution, in advance of the semiquincentennial anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence July 4, 2026, marking 250 years.

Featuring display panels, interactive digital kiosks, unique artifacts, and primary accounts, the exhibition utilizes storytelling, illustration and cutting-edge technology to connect modern audiences with the people and places that shaped the nation’s birth.

The ribbon-cutting, hosted by the Ocklawaha Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, will include light refreshments, and a brief program. There is no admission charge.

Located at 1995 N. Donnelly St., the library is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Lady Lake offers spring concert series

The Town of Lady Lake is sponsoring a Sounds of Spring Concert Series, a lineup of free live music performances from tribute and cover bands, along with food trucks, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 22, April 5 and May 17 at Snooky Park, 120 Lady Lake Blvd.

The first concert will feature Peace of Woodstock, with songs from the era of peace and love, while the Gotta Grove Band will perform high energy hits during the second concert. The Rundown Band will close out the series with rock and pop favorites.

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and lawn chairs. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Amazing Race for Charity is March 29 in Eustis

The Amazing Race for Charity 2025, a community-driven event benefiting 10 local charities and non-profits, is 8 a.m. March 29 at Ferran Park, 250 Ferran Park Drive, Eustis.

The event challenges participating teams to navigate a 4-to-6-mile course, featuring 15 unique obstacles while raising funds for worthy organizations. This year’s designated recipients included Habitat for Humanity of Lake-Sumter, Worth It Suicide Outreach and Support, Trout Lake Nature Center, Lake Cares Food Pantry, Education Foundation of Lake County, Hand in Hand Recovery, Episcopal Children’s Services, the Humane Society of Lake County, Companions for Courage, and LovExtension.

The City of Eustis recently became the annual fundraiser’s official host and organizer. The Amazing Race for Charity has raised more than $266,000 since its inception in 2014.

Support group for the widowed

The widowed support group of First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora will meet at 9:30 a.m. March 27 in the church’s chapel, 333 E. Fifth Ave. The group is open to men and women who have experienced loss.

Lenten soup and study

First Presbyterian Church of Mount Dora is hosting a soup and study during Lent called “Living with Grace” from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through April 16 in its Biery Fellowship Hall.

The next study is March 26. Homemade soup will be served and the church’s pastor, Dr. Brenda Loyal, will lead the discussion each week. The program is free and open to the public. The church is located at 222 W. Sixth Ave.

United Way’s Day of Caring is March 25

The United Way of Lake and Sumter Counties will have its annual Day of Caring March 25 and is seeking volunteers from the community to help with projects that support local organizations and enrich the lives of area residents, such as packing and distributing food for families in need,  preparing and serving meals at soup kitchens, community cleanups and painting at a Habitat for Humanity project.

No experience is necessary and youth volunteers are welcome with adult supervision. Project supplies and guidance will be provided. Most projects will be completed between 9 a.m. and noon.

The 104th annual Lake County Fair will take place April 4-13 in Eustis and fair organizers are seeking entries for Plein Air and the new Photo Walk, part of the Creative Living competition.

School choice transfer applications

Lake County Schools is accepting applications from Lake County residents for 2025-26 Educational Choice transfers through April 30. A second open enrollment will open in June for all Florida residents.

Educational Choice gives families the flexibility to send their children to any traditional public school, regardless of where in Florida they live, as long as the school has capacity and the family can provide transportation.

If an open school (one with capacity to take additional students) receives more applications than it has open seats, a random, computerized lottery will be held and applicants will be selected in the order determined by the lottery. Parents will receive results in mid-May.

Ages 50-over men’s softball league seeks players

The Lakes League Men’s Softball League, for individuals 50 and over, plays games at 9 a.m. Thursdays at Pear Park, 26701 U.S. Highway 27, Leesburg. The league welcomes new players.

Prenatal classes offered at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital

Orlando Health South Lake Hospital offers a Ready for Birth childbirth class each week in two parts from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, or a one-day class from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays. The classes take place at the hospital, 1900 Don Wickham Drive in Clermont.

The class encompasses information about exercises to prepare the mother for birth, relaxation and coping techniques, pain control options, labor positioning, induction and C-section basics, recovery and welcoming baby. Expectant mothers are encouraged to bring up to two support “coaches” to the class.  Registration is required and every other month the class is offered in Spanish.

— The hospital also has a prenatal Ready for Breastfeeding class, focused on benefits of breastfeeding for baby and mom, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays or Thursdays, or from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays. The class covers what to expect when initiating breastfeeding, skin-to-skin holding, positioning, deep latch techniques, pumps and pumping, and basic troubleshooting.

— A Ready for Baby newborn care class takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays. It details what to expect during the hospital stay, infant nutrition options, immunization facts and options, developmental milestones, soothing baby and newborn hygiene.

— A monthly Restore Your Core and Pelvic Floor class will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. April 22, and will address common issues like back and pelvic pain, diastasis recti (abdominal separation), urinary incontinence and pelvic floor dysfunction. Women will learn what bodily changes to expect after giving birth, how to prepare for childbirth and how to maximize recovery.

Call for dental volunteers

The Lazarus Dental Clinic in Leesburg and St. Luke Medical and Dental Clinic in Eustis, ministries of Catholic Charities of Central Florida, are need volunteers to help them deliver free, quality medical and dental care to dozens of uninsured, low-income clients they see on a weekly basis, all of which are living at or below 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level.

The dental clinic is located at 1321 Sunshine Ave., Leesburg, in partnership with St. Paul’s Catholic Church, and St. Luke, 722 S. Grove St., Eustis, operates in partnership with St. Mary of the Lakes Catholic Church. The Lazarus Medical Clinic, 210 Wonders St., Wildwood, also needs volunteers.

At each of the facilities, experienced volunteer health care professionals provide services in a caring environment and partner with laboratories, diagnostic centers, hospitals and treatment centers to connect patients with low-cost options for those additional types of services. Adult primary care is provided at St. Luke and the Lazarus Medical Clinic.

Clerical volunteers are needed to provide administrative support at each of the clinics, which are generally open from 9 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, by appointment only. Evening hours are scheduled depending on the availability of health care professionals. Experience is not required to volunteer.
