Kolkata: Kolkata Police has said they would not be able to provide security for the KKR-vs-LSG IPL match at Eden Gardens, slated for April 6, as it would coincide with Ram Navami, when the city would require heightened cop deployment for the processions planned on that day.
This may lead to the rescheduling of the match. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has taken up the matter with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a decision.
CAB president Snehasish Ganguly confirmed police did not give the go-ahead for the match. "They have categorically said they won't be able to provide adequate security on the match day. If there's no police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible," said Ganguly, who held two rounds of discussions with KP on Tuesday, in an attempt to find a resolution.
CAB said it hoped a solution would emerge. "We have informed BCCI about the coincidence and discussed the issue with the KKR management. There is still time before deciding on the issue, and we will proceed, based on what they decide," Ganguly added.
The 2025 IPL season is set to kick off at Eden Gardens on March 22, with defending champions KKR taking on RCB.
