The former leader of the Anglican Church in Barbados and the West Indies, Archbishop Drexel Gomez, is currently hospitalised in his home country, the Bahamas, due to a serious medical condition, Anglican Bishop, the Right Reverend Michael Maxwell has revealed.

In a statement, Maxwell said Archbishop Gomez’s family has reported that he is conscious and resting comfortably.
The family has requested prayers for his well-being and recovery and Bishop Maxwell has echoed this request.

“I am calling on all Anglicans and the wider Barbadian Christian community to remember Archbishop Gomez in prayer. We should also remember his family and the people and Diocese of The Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Islands at this time.'”

Archbishop Gomez served the Diocese of Barbados and the wider community for twenty years, from 1972 to 1992, before returning to the Bahamas. He last visited Barbados in July last year where he delivered a notable sermon during the Diocesan Service commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Diocese.
