Ten Years Down, Forever To Go
“The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies, my love…”
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Celine Dion
Ten years after first committing to one another, Camille and Niaron Hyatt reaffirmed their union on December 28, 2024, marking a momentous occasion that was, for Camille, the perfect birthday gift. Surrounded by family and friends at the Greater Grace Temple Apostolic Church in Kingston, they celebrated their journey together, strengthened by their unwavering faith in God and each other.
It was that same faith that initially brought them together in March 2014, when they met after worship at One Way Apostolic Church. Camille, a business owner, was captivated by a story Niaron was telling. “The first time we spoke, he was sharing a story about his first time preaching, but it got cut short because he had to leave. I told him I wanted to hear the rest of it. I wasn’t initially interested in him romantically, just curious,” Camille told Tuesday Style Vows (TSV)
. “But he would say that the first time that he saw me, I was asked to do an exhortation at church. He said after, ‘Give that girl six months and I will turn her into a preacher’.”
Soon after, Niaron, a bishop at the Apostolic House of Worship and Deliverance, invited Camille to join him in ministering to others. Through this shared spiritual mission, their bond deepened. In no time, they were inseparable, praying together and learning more about each other.
Their courtship may have been brief, but Camille was convinced Niaron was her soul mate not only because of his love for her, but also, because of his dedication to her teenage daughter, stepping into the role of a father figure with ease.
“He showed up not just for me, but for her. He cared so much and he was always there to encourage me. It’s like you meet somebody that complements you and completes you,” Camille said. “We can talk about anything and everything,” Camille said, “I could tell that this doesn’t happen every day, and I could feel the butterflies that people talk about.”
In May, Camille was at church, under the impression that Niaron was helping another couple with their engagement. What she didn’t know was that he was secretly orchestrating hers.
“He asked a young man to go for the lady that this ring belongs to. So I thought it was going to be the young man that was going to propose to someone. The young man started to walk towards the back and then came straight towards me, and then I realised what it was about,” Camille recalled.
Camille and Niaron married on December 27, 2014, but Camille felt the day didn’t reflect her vision for the occasion. She had always hoped for a chance to do it her way, and this renewal ceremony offered just that. For them, it was a fresh start in their relationship.
“When we got married the first time, some of the things that were done, it wasn’t my personality. It was more my mom’s and my aunt’s. But this time I had my stamp on it,” Camille said. “We have been through a lot and I said that if we make it to 10 years, we can make it to forever. So we decided to treat this ceremony as a fresh start for both of us.”
It was a memorable occasion with the church tastefully decorated by NatEfua Bridal.
For her special day, Camille selected an ivory princess dress by Pretty Woman. She walked up the aisle escorted by Norman Russell to Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years, ready to renew her commitment to Niaron. Sealed with a kiss, it was a fitting celebration of love, growth and togetherness. The festivities then moved to the Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel, where guests enjoyed a sumptuous banquet.
Camille and Jerome enjoyed three wedding cakes prepared by Peter Young: a fruitcake, a Baileys Irish Cream, and a raspberry cream cheese. They shared their first dance to Celine Dion’s version of The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, a song that had special significance to Camille.
“The song means a lot to me… I needed that song… It always touched something deep in me and I got the opportunity to use it and my husband loved it,” she said.
A honeymoon is planned for a later date.
