ALLIANCE − Alliance High School will celebrate 50 years with an open house Oct. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m.

All alumni and community members are invited to celebrate the milestone, according to a news release from the Alliance City School District.

The high school at 400 Glamorgan St. opened Sept. 5, 1972. It replaced a school on Broadway Street that was open for students from 1911 through Spring 1972.

"High school buildings are often one of the most used and important buildings in a community, and AHS is no exception to that," said Superintendent Rob Gress in the release.

At the celebration, visitors will be able to view yearbooks and memorabilia from the past − along with a slideshow of photos from around 1972 − and take a tour of the high school.

"We hope not only staff and students from th 72-73 school year will come, but anyone who would like the opportunity to see firsthand how the building has changed ...," Gress said.

Some of the changes include the addition of an auxiliary gym expansion of the career tech hall, an updated Len Dawson Field and redesigns of the media center and cafeteria.

If AHS alumni from 1973-76 have photos from their high school days and would like them included in the slideshow presentation, email photos to Cheyanne Gonzales.

Her email is gonzalesch@alliancecityschools.org; deadline to submit photos is Oct. 9.
