Qatar to participate in Islamic Solidarity Games in Turkey

Qatar will take part in the fifth edition of 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games, which will be held in Konya, Turkey, from August 9-18. More than 6,000 athletes from 58 countries are set to take part in the championship. 

The Qatar Olympic Committee will send athletes in 16 disciplines, including basketball, volleyball, handball, cycling, athletics, swimming, shooting, Taekwondo, Judo, Karate, weightlifting, wrestling, fencing and gymnastics.

These preparatory meeting for the Games was attended by representatives from 58 countries, who confirmed their participation in Konya. 

The Islamic Solidarity Games is the second most popular sport event behind the Olympic Games in terms of participants’ number.

The fifth edition of the Games were originally planned to be held in September 2021, but was rescheduled to August 2022 due to COVID-19 pandemic.

The event is organised by the Islamic Solidary Sports Federation, which was founded in 1985 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia under the patronage of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
