Manuela-(Mela)-Ortega

Manuela (Mela) Ortega, age 70, passed away on May 30, 2021, surrounded by family. She was born on August 3, 1950, to parents Cresencio and Mauricia Molina in Roswell, New Mexico.

Mela grew up in Roswell and lived most of her adult life in California. There she met and later married Sabino Ortega. They married in 2005 but were lovingly committed to each other many years before that.

Mela loved our Heavenly Father, going to church, bible study, and enjoyed Christian music. She also loved spending time with family and friends, and always made us laugh. She was always smiling and happy, never met a stranger, nor was there ever a dull moment around her.

Mela was a homemaker, caregiver, and worked at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center for several years. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Mela was very generous and loving to not only family but also to friends.

Special thanks to her dear friends, Margaret Lucero Zepeda and Patsy Galvan Sedillo of Roswell, and best friend Alice Garcia of San Pedro, California.

Mela is survived by her husband Sabino and daughter Marivel Ortega; as well as siblings Consuelo (Chello) Segui, Alice and Carlos Molina, Victor and Clara Baca, and Suzy Aragon. Grandchildren include Christopher Perea, Anthony and Brean Medina, Jessica Cereceres, Alicia Rivera, and Christopher Otero; as well as 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by her parents Cresencio and Mauricia Molina; son Reymundo Cereceres, daughter Cruzita Medina; brothers Leo and Raymond Molina, Pete, Milo, and Salvador Baca.

A memorial service will be held at New Covenant Fellowship-Roswell, located at 1601 W. McGaffey Street, on Thursday, June 17 at 10am, followed by burial at South Park Cemetery.

“Sunshine,” as our brother Victor called her, will be missed by so many who loved her.

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
