Classes at Wayland Baptist University's Lubbock campus are now moving online for the remainder of the semester.

Dr. Elyn Palmer, executive director and dean of the Lubbock campus, informed students, faculty and staff of the transition after observing the escalating COVID-19 cases in Lubbock County.

Dr. Palmer said:

This will allow us a good opportunity for in-depth sanitization of the campus facilities, as well as an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to self-quarantine.

Classrooms will now be closed to faculty and students, and coursework instruction will be administered through Blackboard.

Wayland offices will however remain open with limited staffing, and computer stations will still be available to students who don't have access to computers on their own.

Registration for spring classes opens at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 30th. Classes for the next semester will begin in January.

Palmer says that the university plans for classes to return to flexible, in-person instruction in the Spring.

Wayland moved to an 8-week session format for the fall session to accommodate students and quicken the degree completion process. The new schedule coincides with a traditional 16-week college semester.

The new schedule also allows for a summer session, which means students can take courses in 5 session per year as opposed to the 4-term method that was being used.
